GROW Elect Update

GROW Elect Update – Every Vote Counts – December 21st, 2016

GROW Elect was proud to help elect an additional 50 Latino Republicans to office in California in 2016. As election officials finally concluded counting ballots across California earlier this month, we wanted to review the final results in some of our closest races.

These contests demonstrate just how much every vote counts, and how our supporters helped to make a real difference in these elections.

Thanks to the strong support GROW Elect has received from Charles Munger, Jr., B. Wayne Hughes, Jr., David Horowitz and The New Majority, we have been able to elect a record number of Latino candidates across the state.

In Chula Vista, Republican Mike Diaz (above) was elected to the City Council – beating a well known politician – in a close race. Mike ran a campaign of intensive precinct-walking but was not able to afford sending out any direct mail. GROW Elect stepped in with an independent expenditure effort for Mike that included targeted mail and phone calls that Mike credits for his election victory.

In the Central Coast city of Salinas, Tony Villegas (above) unseated an incumbent by only 375 votes to create a first-time Republican majority on the City Council in what is considered a heavily Democratic area.

In Tulare County, Kuyler Crocker (above) trailed on Election Night but pulled ahead in the final counting for a victory margin of 295 votes in his race for County Supervisor. GROW Elect was proud to be among his strongest supporters in this hard-fought election contest. Kuyler is a Millenial Latino Republican who will be a rising star in the Central Valley region.

In another nail-biter, GROW Elect candidate Ernie Ochoa (top right) initially trailed but, with GROW Elect support, ultimately won election to the Merced Community College Board by a mere 327 votes.

Now, on to more Victories

GROW Elect is already working hard to prepare our candidates for local elections scheduled in January, February and March, 2017, in different communities across California. Our work to help the party grow continues!
