GROW Elect: Rising Star

GROW Rising Star – Latina Millennial Bernadette Suarez – appointed to Lawndale City Council

Bern

The GROW Elect program is focused on the grass roots and supporting Latino and Latina candidates who are inspired to become community leaders. One of our youngest successful candidates is Bernadette Suarez, who at the age of only 23 won a sweeping upset victory by 10 points for Lawndale City Clerk in 2014.

GROW Elect helped develop voter targeting and an aggressive precinct walking program for Bernadette and worked with her to write and design a direct mail program to likely voters.

We are proud to announce that Bernadette was recently appointed by a unanimous vote to a vacant seat on the City Council of Lawndale. She became the first Hispanic and youngest member ever to serve on the council. Her continued success is a model for others as we move forward. Congratulations to Councilmember Bernadette Suarez!

GROW Elect Profile: Yorba Linda Councilman Eugene “Gene” Hernandez

hernandez

In 2012, GROW Elect supported Gene Hernandez in his successful campaign for Yorba Linda City Council. Since then Gene, a former Chief of Police, has served with distinction. During his term as Mayor, Yorba Linda was the safest City in Orange County and maintains one of the highest reserve funds of any city in Orange County. The city has a balanced budget and no outstanding debt. Under Gene’s tenure delays in developing Yorba Linda’s new Town Center have been removed, and workforce housing needs are being addressed.

Gene Hernandez is running for re-election this November, and GROW Elect is proud to support his re-election. You can reach Gene and learn more about his campaign at: http://www.electgenehernandez.com/

Congratulations to new City Treasurer Rick Rios

City Treasure Rick and Steve 2016-06

Earlier this month, Rick Rios (Pictured Left) was appointed City Treasurer in the City of Brea. His appointment was helped and supported by another successful GROW Elect candidate, Brea City Councilmember Steven Vargas (Pictured Right).

Mr. Rios is well qualified for the City Treasurer position. He has an extensive education with degrees in Finance, Law and Commerce, and he has an impressive background in financial markets. Rick is a longtime resident of Brea and he has been a volunteer leader in various community organizations. Along with Councilmember Vargas, Rick will focus on and work to curb the problem of Unfunded Liabilities in municipal government.

GROW Elect is looking forward to supporting Rick Rios in his run to fill the seat for a full term in the November election.
